For example in Italy the Legislative Decrees n.31/2001 and n.27/2002 provide two types of analytical control, physical-chemical and microbiological testing by the Manager of the Integrated Water Service, carried out in laboratories, and by the Companies.

In our family we had drunk bottled sparkling water for years. Because I thought bottled water was safer than tap water. Recently, trashing numerous plastic bottles, I realized that all this garbage was a wastefulness.

My husband, that is more reluctant than me about what big water companies write on bottle labels, one day came back home with a Profine filtration kit. But there was a problem: convincing our children to drink water from the tap.

So he told them we would have a new “drinking fountain” in the kitchen and he would need their help to install it. After an afternoon spent working with their dad, they were so enthusiastic that they couldn’t wait to drink their breakfast tea made with “new” water from the “drinking fountain”.

Now we drink only our water, and we don’t buy bottled one. The difference is very remarkable. Our water is more tasteful, without chlorine odour and it’s safer. Moreover we save our money and we haven’t so many plastic bottles to pick up and trash.

The children are happy about drinking from “their fountain” and having a water pitcher on the table is more pleasant than having a creaking plastic bottle.

When you reason generically about water, the first thought goes to water to drink. Inside a house, however, water is used in different ways: for washing vegetables , to make tea or simply for pasta. In fact, water is the key ingredient for any recipe you want to try.

Taking care of the raw materials is not only a matter of culture. For water it is also simplicity. The ease of not having to buy bottled water but use directly home water. Opening the tap in our kitchen and being sure that the water that would flow from the tap is good and above all safe, now it’s possible!

That’s why we can say that among the main utensils for our kitchen there are Profine ® filter cartridges. A complete range, depending on the chosen colour, refine your water according to the different types of filtration and removes substances that you don’t want. From eliminating unpleasant odours and flavours such as those derived from chlorine (Profine® Blue, Profine® Silver) until the expulsion of total heavy materials such as arsenic (Profine® Arsenic).

DRINKING HOME WATER

Drinking home water is definitely the easiest thing in the world. Just open a tap, fill a glass and … Drink! Some people consider the plastic bottles more “comfortable”, but they aren’t. Firstly weigh and clutter . Then, have you ever tried to open a bottle or give a new bottle to a child, to someone who has little “force” or when you have wet hands? Well, maybe you could die of thirst waiting to achieve it, which is quite impossible without the aid of cloths, towels, scissors, nutcrackers and… who knows what other tricks. Drinking home water is also convenient, saves on expenditure and especially gasoline, because many people go to the supermarket by car, although close to home, only to buy bulky crates of water. Some people ask for getting them delivered at home by retailers and wholesalers that make you pay for something that you already have in your home, asking for a fee on the service. Is it worth? Buying water of poor quality when we already have on hand better water, healthier and more controlled, just as the one that flows and gushes from our taps.

This is the philosophy that we also have told at the “2013 Water Festival”, made by FederUtility (the federation which brings together the local utility companies operating in the Electricity, Gas and Water) in L’Aquila.

Together with Aqua Italia, we have promoted Water at zero kilometres, the one that comes out of tap. In fact, home water is cheaper and “green”. It’s known to all that PET plastic bottles have strong effects on the environment: 1 kg of PET (25 bottles of 1.5 l) consumes 2 kg of oil and 17.5 l of water and releases into the atmosphere:

– 40 g of hydrocarbons ,

-25 g of sulphur oxides,

– 20 g of nitrogen oxides ,

– 18 g of carbon monoxide ,

and 2.3 kg of carbon dioxide which causes the greenhouse effect .

Our project called “Pensa Acqua” (Think Water) has its aim: changing the habits of people and get them to drink home water.
